In Operation Annihilate! we have Spock saying to Jim “Let me help” and Bones talking about Jim’s “affection for Spock”.
This is the last episode of Season 1.
I translate this as follows:
Spock to Jim: I love you.
Bones to Jim: I know you love Spock.
The subsequent episode is, of course, Amok Time.

It really kinda annoys me when people assume that Kirk and Spock are complete opposites.
Like sure physically they are very much different - tall and lean and dark vs shorter and stockier and tan and blonde, but it’s really not true of their personalities and likes/dislikes and views.
Kirk places a huge amount of importance on the sanctity of life - which hmm interestingly enough is one of the core principals of Surakian philosophy - hence the Vulcan adherence to vegetarianism and non-violent resolution. Throughout the 5 year mission we see Jim sacrifice or willingly give himself up to danger to save his crew - essentially the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few or the one (however he will still fight to the end just to save the ‘one’) yet another core principal in Vulcan ideology. These principals are very obviously just as important to Spock as they are to Kirk - it’s the founding basis for a lot of their joint command decisions and just one of the reasons they balance each other and work so well together.
They both share a passion and desire to explore and discover space and the infinite possibilities it provides - Spock’s scientist complements the explorer in Kirk.
Both are well read and continuously, to the chagrin of Bones probably
( and to my glee eheh) quote classic terran poetry and literature - I mean they aCTUALLY FINISH EACH OTHERS QUOTES LORD HAVE MERCY. And they both seem to have a fascination with history.
The joint love of strategy and chess is pretty darn obvious.
Rather than 'opposites attract’ as might seem the case on the surface Kirk and Spock have a complex relationship dynamic that is defined by their mutual passions and loves and is strengthened by their differences.
