#this is actually the moment where i /knew/ cas was in love with dean#like HIS moment of realisation#the fact that he just sat and listened to his charge#he’s an angel of the lord i mean surely he hasn’t got time to perch on dean’s soldier#be a quiet presence to soak up the hateful poison dean’s trying to expel here?#he doesn’t say anything because he doesn’t need to#just fucking look at his face ok and tell me that isn’t an entity desperately saddened by his righteous man’s lack of belief in himself#tell me that cas doesn’t wish he could draw out all of dean’s pain be his physician his guide his comfort#and you can see his realisation that he pushed too far and he doesn’t deserve to have dean put on his brave face for him#so he lets him be weak#he lets him be self-pitying#because god knows that no one ever lets dean just fucking say it#just get it out there#before contradicting him and making him slide that self-depracating grin back on#making him push it down further until it festers into /this/#so cas just listens (via apocalypse-now-ish)
This big fella is on the postcard, and I showed some progress shots way back when I was painting him, but I figured maybe this would be a good time for some more detailed views of him. I’ve gotten kind of fond of my little buddy here.
No surprise, he’s heading for the Dubious Beasts: Symbiosis show in Cannon Beach next weekend.
(If you want to get a peek at what’s up with the other half of the DB:S show, here’s a nice piece about Shing at WonderCon!)

Drawing things out makes me feel a little better
Sorry for the long rant ^^;
Some people don’t feel artists deserve compensation seeing as it’s not as “essential” as, say, doctors or plumbers….Of course, then there are those who think that artists don’t even deserve recognition, let alone payment, so they take away artist sources and comments, thinking that artists live off of the euphoria of drawing alone (and of course if we complain about it, we’re being selfish bitches or spoiled brats).
Yes, recognition is amazing, but we also don’t want to work for free (unless it’s something you just REALLY want to do of course and isn’t looking to buy food with recognition coupons). There are plenty of great companies and people who hire artists, and these hired paid artists get plenty of recognition.
Also, Stephen Silver’s video on this is pretty great so take a look if you haven’t yet.
Please note: I don’t mean to say you shouldn’t ever draw for anyone for free evar ever, but you deserve to be paid. Your art has value, and more importantly, your artistic skills have value and people should not expect it for free.
This also is pretty good/funny: Should I work for free? a flow cart
