I’m sorry, but when people call the writers of Sherlock homophobic because of the scene where John tells Mrs. Hudson that he’s not gay I just get so irrationally irritated.
Because it’s not homophobic if a straight character says he’s not gay. It just isn’t.
If John says he’s straight, then until he says otherwise, he is. I understand a lot of people ship him with Sherlock and there’s no problem with that—it is completely okay,
but if John is canonly straight and the writes choose to write him that way, then it’s not homophobic, it’s just sticking with what is canon in the actual sherlock novels.
John didn’t say “ew gross no homo, mrs H!” He said “Mrs. Hudson, for the last time, I am not gay!”
If you’re straight and someone assumes that you’re gay, then you’re probably going to want to inform them. And if the same person keeps pushing and implying that you’re gay when you’ve already told them time after time that you are straight (much like John has told Mrs. Hudson), then you’re provably going to get a bit irritated after a while.
So no, the writers of Sherlock are NOT homophobic.
