Miss Honey was being financially and emotionally manipulated (both forms of abuse) and potentially physically. Matilda was still being neglected and bullied, and let’s not forget that Agatha Trunchbull was a headteacher until they scared her away. She literally put children in a cupboard of rusty nails and broken glass (and threw a girl over the fence.)

Holding Miss Honey’s head under the bath water, controlling her finances & stealing her inheritance was abuse; pretending to be Miss Honey’s dad in order to reclaim the stolen inheritance was an act of defence. Not the same thing.
