I saw this earlier today, and at first I thought to myself, “Well, the only thing I learned from this is that I should be e-mailing Disney Channel and telling them to keep doing what they’re doing in this regard.”

But then I thought, "You know what, why not?"  Disney Channel has been getting hate from groups like Flordia Family Association and One Million Moms because of their choice to include a two mom family in one episode of their show.

In a business that runs off of support from its viewers, getting swarmed with anti-LGBT letters has to be daunting.  I have no doubt that Disney IS gauging public reaction.  And I’m sure a lot of what they’re getting right now is tons of spam for a few isolated groups like this.

So why not take two minutes out of your day to encourage Disney to continue to make strides towards equality?  So called “Family” organizations are trying to make their voices so loud that it seems like they have the majority view, but if every person who sees this reblogs it and sends a quick e-mail with a few nice words, we would easily outnumber them.

So lets do it.  Step away from your dashboard for just one moment to help Disney make one more step towards LGBT inclusiveness.

I did this, and I wasn’t sure what to say so I took their suggested content and twisted it around. Here it is, if anyone wants to copy/paste or just get an idea for what to write themeselves:

Subject line:

Positive LGBTQ representation is good for our children

Email content:

I was thrilled to learn the Disney Channel has decided to include lesbian parents in the Good Luck Charlie program.
The Disney Channel is watched almost exclusively by young children, all of whom will encounter LGBTQ people in their lives, and some of whom are LGBTQ themselves and/or have LGBTQ parents. It’s crucial that those children see reflections of themselves and their families in the media.
Many parents across America have trusted the Disney Channel for their children and many more will do so if you continue to add LGBTQ content to your programs. It’s a necessary step all media must take, especially companies with as much social influence as Disney.
My family and many others will gladly support the Disney Channel if such positive LGBTQ exposure continues.
Please consider adding more lesbians and LGBTQ people in any and all Disney programs! It’s incredibly beneficial, not just to LGBTQ people, but to the world at large, for the media to demonstrate the wide range of human diversity, especially to children. That way our kids, no matter their identities, can grow up knowing all people are equal and worthy of love and respect.
I look forward to seeing more LGBTQ content from Disney in the near future. Thank you for your time!
