I made this because I’m sick of all the hate Frozen’s been getting on this site. Ignore the few grammatical errors. Also please don’t hate me. I just want everyone to get along and watch Disney movies and laugh and love each other and eat popcorn without making everything an issue of political correctness.

kiango

this is such a bullshit post and I can’t believe this is getting notes.

i can’t believe people think that putting their shitty psuedo racism-excusing bullshit in power-point format is somehow validating.

but ok

  • The Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale that Frozen is based upon—The Snow Queen—features many non-white native people of Scandinavia and even more female characters than the movie features
  • the film literally has a talking fucking snowman and you’re talking about geographical accuracy. Seriously, I can’t believe that this is a fairy tale, but we are somehow inhibited by geographical restrictions here on skin color. Amazing. Truly astounding.
  • but ok I’ll take the bait and go with it:
  • Sami is a culture and ethnicity, not a race, jackass. Sami people have come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. Including PoC.

Sami aren’t all white and fair haired, not by a long shot. Now a days you’ll see a lot of white Sami (hint: because oppression and persecution and fucking white colonialism and imperialism. I can keep going but)

I also resent the assumption that everyone in Denmark at the time was white, when black people were THERE back then. This also goes for you too, Brave fans: PoC existed in the country

Case in point, here’s some paintings of several rulers of Denmark with black people featured:

More examples (some even older than those above, dating back to the 1300s) can be found here; sources and art samples kindly provided by medievalpoc

As for the claims of exactly how many PoC would be at any given area at any time in 1800s Denmark, a source on that would be appreciated, something more concrete than some white kid on the internet’s rough [uneducated] estimation on what life was like in 1800s Denmark lmfao

As for the other princesses, are we going to ignore how Pocahontas was romanticized and “aged-up” to be a love interest for a man who was historically her rapist when she was like

what

12?

and taken to some fucking country and died young away from the land she knew?

We gonna ignore how she plays into the Noble Savage trope pretty hard?

Don’t get me wrong, I love Pocahontas, and she’s probably my fav princess and I love her, but she isn’t some shining beacon of Diversity Done Right. (this is of course ignoring how there weren’t any Native American princesses and to my very limited knowledge on this topic, the idea of Native American “royalty (kings, queens, princesses, etc) is rooted in white people coming in, and taking some bozos from the tribes who has little to no authority or leadership within those tribes, and then shaking them down and taking them back to europe and saying they were “kings” of their people, and then them using this made-up authority to sign away the land of those groups because they were the only ones these white dudes could get to sign the papers because whoever was in charge of the tribes took a look at it and was like “no, how stupid do you think I am, get out” but you know ok whatever)

There is also some criticism of the depiction of Mulan in the Disney film laying around somewhere, but I didn’t save it. I’m sure a quick google will point it out real quick.

Tiana and Kuzco both spent like 90% of their screentime as animals. This also happened in Brother Bear, another disney film depicting PoC as the main character. Give me a disney film where the white MAIN CENTRAL PROTAGONIST is an animal for the majority of their screentime, then get back to me. Side characters don’t count.

Tiana’s depiction has also come under fire for depicting the “independent black woman” trope. And while Tiana’s character is strong and wonderful, I can see the frustration. We get back to back to back depictions of pretty white women having to be protected, cherished, saved. When has a black woman ever been depicted as this in any story? Black women have always been shit on historically, and had to work ten times as hard for anything they wanted with half the payoff. I can see the argument behind wanting a black princess to be cherished and loved and protected, instead of having to babysit this entitled prince for most of the movie. While I want more women in media being depicted in Tiana’s personality, courageous and willing to work out her own solution to sticky situations instead of waiting for a man to save her, I also see why one would want a movie where a black woman is depicted as someone willing to fight a dragon for her. Ya feel?

Also: you forgot about Belle, who uh, was released in 1991, while Little Mermaid came out in 1989 to my knowledge.

and like come on, I can’t fucking believe it took fuckin over 70 fucking years for a black princess. I can’t fucking believe.

I also resent how it’s like, “you have a princess from some different cultures, not exceeding one of each! That’ enough, right? Damn! I mean never mind we have like 10 strictly white princesses, but you had your turn!” nah man shut the fuck up

Disney was racist, has been racist, and on many occasions continues to BE racist. Hop off of Disney’s dick for two seconds and look around and it’s fucking obvious. To just dismiss it as something that happened a long time ago and it’s no longer relevant? That’s shit. Racism is alive and well in almost every facet of our lives, especially in media

can i just add something that always bothers me with the argument that “it’s set in Denmark where people were white”? because just because HC Andersen was a Danish writer doesn’t mean that his story is set in Denmark. OP claims to know one or two things about that tiny little Scandinavian country, but do you know how flat Denmark is? it’s highest ‘mountain’ is 482 feet or 147 meters.

like look at it. it got nothing on Sweden’s or Norway’s or Finland’s highest peaks that are 6,886 ft/2,099 m and 8,100 ft/2,469 m and 4,318 ft/1,316 m. Sweden’s highest point’s name is even in Sami: Kebnekaise.

(this seem a bit more familiar from Frozen, right? here, a reminder )

The castle is almost as high as the Danish mountain, c’mon, it’s not set in Denmark.

they also talk about fjords which, in the European mainland exist along the coast of Norway and the Kola Bay in Russia.

Here is also a map of where the different Sami people lived/lives, since they claim that the main character are Sami, which is a whole other issue with possible whitewashing and/or cultural appropriation with clothing and reindeer husbandry. (Read here for some insight from a Sami)

For those lacking in geography skills: that’s the north of Norway, Sweden and Finland. Not Denmark.

so, don’t use the argument “It’s set in Denmark” to defend your racist opinions. It’s not. It’s set in northern Scandinavia where there is an indigenous population where (especially during the segregation during the time period this movie is supposed to be set in) people were  POC (and are still).

I apologize if I have any errors in this, but it’s something that’s been bothering me for such a long time.

Hey fair enough trying to explain why you think Frozen/Disney is racist but there’s no need to be a dick about it. She’s not a jackass for not knowing that Sami is a race not a culture she’s misinformed. There’s no need to resent what you feel are incorrect assumptions just a need to explain otherwise. I agree with what you’re saying about the whole ‘Disney being racist’ bag but there’s no need to supply education or a well-rounded argument with acidic abuse as a side serving. Especially when her intentions where obviously never to offend just to express what she thought was right.

Being misinformed about something doesn’t make someone stupid or an idiot it makes them misinformed.

Misinformation does not equal stupidity

Can we please stop treating people who try defending an idea they don’t have all the information for like an idiot? There is no need to fling abuse at people who maybe just need polite educating on a subject or told about missed events in history or missed facts. There is NO NEED TO BE AN ASSHOLE ABOUT IT.

Would you call a 3 year old an idiot if they said fire trucks where blue? Of course not. Sometimes people wonder around life misinformed about things. It doesn’t make them a stupid or an idiot it makes them misinformed. Don’t take your anger out on one person just because many people might have made this mistake before. It’s not all that one persons fault.

can we please stop

Petra Pan, the Girl who wouldn’t grow up : a masterpost

Hi guys ! I know an old Petra Pan masterpost exists somewhere, but it’s actually not mine, it’s reposted, so if you could just… not reblog it and maybe reblog / like this one instead, it would be super nice and super cool of you :3 ! The other one has like…. 87k of notes so it’s really cool to know that so many of you liked my art, but it’s not even credited so I didn’t know it was so popular before a friend of mine showed it to me ?

Besides, this one really has the full series -with Ms. Flee and the lost girls included- and I would be really happy if they could get the love they deserve !
