Okay seriously how do you get your drawings to be so perfectly accurate like down to the exact pixel? Every color and line is perfect. I wish I was as good as you.

This message has been sitting in my inbox for two days, and it’s such a nice compliment that I hate to shoot it to pieces. :D

(I’m just kidding. It’s a great compliment I promise.)

The answer is they’re not perfectly accurate. I do a pretty good with accuracy but that’s just because of practice. Accuracy is overrated in my opinion. It doesn’t make art good. Mostly, what makes art good is decisions that the artist makes—color, lighting, composition, etc. Accuracy is just a technical skill. Not everyone needs accuracy to say what they want with their art. Not even close.

Here are some gifs so you can see the difference between references and final drawings…

I mean. Not to shoot myself down or tell you you’re wrong or anything. I’m really delighted and humbled that you like my drawings so much that they’re perfect to you. I make lots of decisions when I draw anything, so it’s super cool to know those decisions are actually working. :)
