notice how Russel T Davies saw his companions as women

and Moffat saw his companions as girls

I think that says a lot

Not to mention that the Doctor named Amy/Clara whereas Rose/Martha/Donna earned their titles.  It’s a subtle distinction because, technically, Amy “earned” her title by being a girl who did wait, but it’s the impact of these monikers that’s troubling.  Rose became the Bad Wolf when she ended the Time War, Martha became the woman who walked the Earth after saving the planet, and Donna was the most important woman in the universe because she saved it.  Both Amelia and Clara have been heroic and saved people, but their titles don’t reflect that.  Their titles reflect who they are to the Doctor—not who they are as individuals.

Very good point! They lose their autonomy when the Doctor becomes the decided factor in their titles, instead of going out and earning them for themselves.

Why Donna and Martha are the best. And Rose too I guess. I don’t like Rose, but her role within the Who-verse is way more fantastic and great than Amy and Clara.

Isn’t interesting how sexism can really colour a work? I mean give a shade or make it lean towards certain ways no matter how good the writer. Stephen Moffat is a brilliant writer but he still can’t hide the way his disposition affects his work. I wonder if he even noticed.

Girl is pioneer at quarterback for Florida High School

That first picture just fills me with such joy and a feeling of hope.

HEY ERIN HEY!

It’s the last picture that gets me. Her eyes are off reading the defense, because she’s not handing off to the RB, that’s a fake. She’s the QB and she’d doing her goddamn job and she’s doing it well. GET IT GIRL.

“Everybody says, ‘What happens when she gets hit?’ ” Gatewood said. “This isn’t a knock on Erin, but she’s bigger than 10 kids on my team. I have a wide receiver that weighs 25 pounds less than her. And the pads she wears are the same as the pads he wears.”

I have complete respect for veterans.

However, I don’t like this post because it can be interpreted as specifically targeting teenage girls and generalizing their emotions as petty and superficial. (An already problematic stereotype in society that diminishes women beginning at adolescence) Every veteran shown is a man, suggesting that only males have the right to feel sorrow, build relationships, and other common human experiences. The lack of female veteran representation also implies that these brave women aren’t capable of the same “emotional depth” as their male counterparts.

This may not have been the intent of the original poster, but this is how I saw it. Respect veterans, respect women, respect all humans.
