he’s still holding this trophy..
i think my roommate said it best: if you ever feel embarrassed about something, you can at least take comfort in the fact that you haven’t broken down on public radio.

"Excuse him, he’s a Kaiju grrroupie. He loves them-"
"Shut up, I don’t love them, okay?! I study them."
Welp, aaand there goes my weekend. Let’s just ignore the tiny fact that these huge creatures destroyed whole cities and extinguished millions of lifes. Newton thinks they are beautiful in their own very very. Very. Special way.
Oops, I ship them, but then, how could you not?
Incredibly spoilery talk ahead, so don’t read more if you haven’t seen the movie.

Seriously, spoilers. I warned you.

I think Newton knows that because he drifted with the Kaiju brain, that Otachi and Leatherback knew Cherno Alpha and Crimson Typhoon’s weaknesses, hence why they were taken out so quickly. Striker Eureka as well, for that matter, and he probably feels unbelievably guilty for it, I mean, who wouldn’t?
However, after the three way drift between the baby kaiju and the scientists, Hermann probably felt all of Newt’s fear and guilt in those moments, and I just really love the idea of Hermann letting himself be an emotional support in his own way, even if it’s just letting Newt have the breakdown he didn’t know he needed without judgement.
