Newt/Hermann Musician AU
Newt knows that he’s a musical genius. He’s never needed sheet music because he could play everything by ear. He’s praised for his talent and is expected to become a renowned concert pianist. Everything was going great until he meets his new mentor, Dr. Hermann Gottlieb, a former child prodigy and concert violinist.
"What the fuck is this?"
"Sheet music, Mister Geiszler, surely you’ve heard of it."
Newt scoffs. “Well, duh, but I don’t need any of this." Herman raises an eyebrow, prompting Newt to continue. “I play everything by ear, so, why don’t you just play it back for me and I’ll play it for you."
Hermann’s mouth twitches up in the corners, nods lightly, and taps his cane against the hardwood floors. “No, mister Geiszler. I will not play the piece for you, and you will read this sheet music. For a talented musician such as yourself, this should be no problem."
Newt’s smile falters, just for a second. “Psssht, naw, of course not, it’s just…um…I don’t do sheet music."
Hermann smirks, thin lips pressing together, mocking him. “Is that so?" He turns around and begins to limp away. “Well, in that case, Mister Geiszler, goodbye. Now, if you don’t mind, I have other engagements to attend to."
Newt’s jaw clenches and he spins around on the seat. “Wait!" he calls, his voice echoing through the large room, completely empty except for the grand piano. Hermann lowers his head to sigh and turns around slowly. “What do I have to do to get you to mentor me?"
"You want to know what you have to do, Mister Geiszler?" Hermann asks.
Newt nods. “Yes."
"Do better." Hermann says. He swings his cane and continues walking out of the room. “I will see you next week, and please, for the love of god, please try to arrive on time."
