Had a great time at the show tonight, saw some old friends, as well as some new ones. It’s crazy touring after a three year hiatus, and seeing a lot of the same people I saw on tour back before 2010. I just wanted to say, thank you. Thank you for being so welcoming and devoted, thank you for taking us in, especially when people around you won’t, thank you for counting hours until the hiatus was over, thank you for every second of missed sleep spent waiting outside arena doors, or constantly tweeting/facebooking me, Pete, Joe, or Andy, and waiting patiently, with butterflies for a reply. You may think it doesn’t matter to us, that it’s indifferent. Well, believe me, it matters more than our morning cup(s) of coffee, you’re what drives us, what motivates us, the steam that keeps this old engine going. We couldn’t do it without you, so thank you. Thank you for being the most devoted and accepting fans out there. Thank you for seeing the world through the same eyes we do. Thank you for rocking out at every show with us. Thank you for making sure other fans are okay when they’re upset, and we can’t reply to them fast enough. Thank you for making it worth while. When we started out in Chicago, we used to mock the idea of being famous, it was always a laughing matter. It was something out of reach, something that didn’t matter, simply because it would never happen. I’ll never forget the night that guy in the crowd suggested we’d be Fall Out Boy, and how well it fit. After that, it all just fell into place (at a mighty rapid speed, may I add), and a lot of the time, it seemed we couldn’t even catch our breath. There are a lot of burnt out rockstars out there, that have been touring long before we started. Thank you, thank you, thank you for keeping us young, wild, and free. For not putting us on the shelf, and letting us dust over, forgetting about us. I hope the day never comes when I want to quit this job, because I’ll never find another occupation half as satisfying. Thank you for giving us reason to push forward when all hope was gone. Thank you for helping Pete through his problem with pills, thank you for helping me through my alcohol binge, thank you for listening to Andy, and reaching out to Joe. You may wonder what it means to us, or if we even notice. Believe me, we do. You’re just as important to us, as we are to you. That’s why we try to make time for you, because with any relationship, both sides must try. I never want to lose one of you, because each of you makes up part of the beautiful project Fall Out Boy has become. Thank you.

Love always,
Ric Stump.

He smiled understandingly — much more than understandingly. It was one of those rare smiles with a quality of eternal reassurance in it, that you may come across four or five times in life. It faced — or seemed to face — the whole external world for an instant, and then concentrated on YOU with an irresistible prejudice in your favor. It understood you just so far as you wanted to be understood, believed in you as you would like to believe in yourself and assured you that it had precisely the impression of you that, at your best, you hoped to convey.
