Supernatural and Misogyny SPOILERS

Normally I skirt around these hot topics cause I don’t wanna get in the line of fire/get dragged into a fight I don’t have time for but I don’t really know how misogynistic supernatural really is (when compared to say oh? every other tv show out there right now). Misogyny and tv land frequently go hand in hand. It’s just the way it is (not that i’m saying thats ok or shouldn’t change).

People are bashing on a lot about how all the women on the show tend to die a lot. To that I say - there is the small matter that every-fucking-one dies on this show. Rufus dies, Bobby dies, that preacher guy that was buddies with the winchesters dies (you may recall meg is the one to turn that bugger inside out), John dies, Ash dies, if you wanna add em sam and deans deaths are uncountable by now, gordon dies, samuel dies, bennie dies are we seeing a pattern here?

Anyone who uses ‘hey! all the women on this show die!’ clearly is maybe missing the point that SO DO ALL THE MEN (save..like…garth and that doesn’t make a lot of sense to me and Cas).

Now in terms of long running alive female characters we are a little sparse on the ground there. Meg was the longest running one and in my personal opinion the worst to champion this point (because of all the female characters she hasn’t been the best but she’s a demon and out of everyone had the best chance of surviving). But to that I still say the 'long running’ character list is a little short outside of Sam and Dean.

There needs to be more chicks on the show but i feel like it would be difficult at this stage to make a character that would fit that dynamic of always moving from place to place. I mean it’d be nice if they made up a chick hunter they run into every now and then. A feisty but well adjusted one (for once. I’m dying for one well adjusted hunter). The kind of chick that would shoot a demon as the boys come running around the corner and she would look up with a grin like 'Well hi Sam and Dean it’s been a long time’ and just seem really stoked and chilled like 'Mind helping me burry this asshole so I can get outta this dump?’

In all honesty outside of Charlie I think the show runners would have a hard time writing a good character that we would all like as well. We’re a hard fucking audience for women, people. There’s a lot of fanbashing surrounding women characters and if you think that the show runners don’t sit up and take notice of that shit you’re wrong. I’d say it’s probably more to do with laziness/having fallen into a creative rut/ trying to focus more on the internal story line instead of gender dynamics by the writers then an outright example of a show that is notably misogynistic.

It began as a quest with two brothers to find thier dad. It focused on the boy feels, the male family relationship dynamics and a journey to find and save people. That’s what they where exploring with the show. That was the point of the story. If it was a brother and sister maybe it would have been different. But it wasn’t *shrugs*. Being so male focused doesn’t mean they where trying to ignore the female demographic. It just meant that male focused storyline is what they wanted to talk about.

You wouldn’t say Brave was misandrist because it focused on a mother daughter relationship and a young woman coming of age. You would just say the story was female focused.

I think I’ve harped on this point enough. I just wanted to get it out there because after Misha’s comment I felt a bit of a shitstorm might be on the horizon.
