Since announcing they were going on indefinite hiatus in 2009, fans rejoiced when Fall Out Boy admitted earlier this year that they were finally back and they’re here to save Rock N’ Roll!

In this exclusive ANDPOP video, Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz, Patrick Stump, Joe Trohman and Andy Hurley chat about the creative process behind writing the song “Miss Missing You” from their new album Save Rock and Roll.

Save Rock and Roll is set to drop April 15th.

For fuck sakes how many times does someone have to say ‘on a break’ before magazine, website, newspaper writing mo-fos get the picture that 'a break’ does not mean 'an indefinite hiatus’

“The people who run E! Online have asked me to comment on the final round of their so-called “alpha male” contest. Well, first of all, let me say it’s ridiculous that anyone would pit me against my dear friend Jensen Ackles. E! Online, you should be ashamed of yourselves for conducting this perverse poll!

And, to forcefully demonstrate my disgust with your sadistic enterprise, my mother and I have devised a sort of boycott: We are each pledging to vote only 10 times in the final round! I hate to be this harsh, this punitive, but there are times when you must make your voice heard.

And, not to go on a tirade, but how could you put poor Jensen through this??? It’s as if you’ve pitted a world heavyweight champion against an amateur featherweight. It’s actually quite cruel, like throwing an injured lamb in a cage with a hungry tiger. I mean, unless you have incredibly old-fashioned ideas of what the term “alpha male” means, it’s pretty clear who comes out on top. I’ve included two photos to decisively illustrate my point…

(see pictures above)

I humbly request that you terminate your poll immediately. I hate to see my friends hurt like this.”

Fall Out Boy, who have just released their fifth studio album, Save Rock and Roll, which has already spawned two hit singles, are just picking up from where they left off four years ago, after suddenly announcing an indefinite hiatus.

We caught up with Joe Trohman, Fall Out Boy’s guitarist, initially for a five-minute chat, but which developed into a mammoth conversation touching the new album, Leeds Festival 2013, their hiatus, and their past albums…

It took a three hour call with Patrick (Stump) to convince me to say yes to coming back, I think everyone was talking about it again, and feeling it again. Even prior to that conversation, I had been working with a band with my friend, Josh Newton (Everytime I Die, The Damned Things) and we were talking about it.

Josh said, “Why don’t you go and do that thing again?” I don’t even know why. When I was on the phone to Patrick, it’s just kind of happened…

In my opinion, the early Fall Out Boy albums were quite heavy, but as the band progressed, let’s say just before Infinity On High, I felt that your music was starting to lean towards being more commercial and less heavy. Then Folie a Deux came out, and it just wasn’t the same as the old FOB, you had progressed but more on a commercial level.

I guess it’s in the eye of the beholder. I really liked Folie a Deux but I don’t think it’s our most cohesive record for sure. I think there’s some of our highest moments and some of our most confusing moments on that record.

It comes from a place, to a degree, from a band who probably have taken a break sooner. Not that I think we shouldn’t have made that record, I’m very proud of it.

There’s nothing wrong with progression and I don’t think it would be a service to anyone to try and recreate Take This To Your Grave, because it would sound incredibly forced, and it’s not really who we are anymore.

All I can say is this record, Save Rock And Roll, was a huge collaborative effort, we all had such a good time making it, and without a doubt, I really, really, really like all the songs on it.

I can’t remember what festival it was, but I saw some guy from some band bump into some kid. He just brushed this kid off. You get that 20 times a day - I get that. That is the only time that kid is ever going to see you. That’s their one. Your 100,000th is their one. And you just blew it for them. Forever, you’re that guy who just blew them off. And you have a certain responsibility to an audience because the music we make doesn’t belong to us. So, I feel like in that same way we had to go back to small clubs. We have to prove that us playing music is worthy of their attention. It’s almost a canned answer because we’ve said it so many times now, but the older I get, the more we do this, I realize that our fans really are our driving force. WE’re pretty driven by trying to be the band we would want to see. Like when we were kids and bands would let us down and were total jerks or didn’t care, we remembered that. So we always try to put ourselves in that position. I remember saving up for weeks to get that one CD. To save up to go to that show.

Patrick Stump - Big Cheese Magazine

I appreciate him saying this SO much. If he ever sees this, that’s the one thing I would want him to know - THANK YOU. This is why you and the rest of Fall Out Boy are and forever will be my favorite band. You get it.
